About Wheatgrass Juice
What Can Wheatgrass Juice do for me?Wheatgrass is the immature wheat plant and if not harvested to produce wheatgrass juice would otherwise develop into a shaft of wheat, die and be harvested for it's grain.
Wheatgrass juice is a living food, a plant grown from a special strain of wheat that produces high concentrations of Chlorophyll, active enzymes, vitamins and other nutrients. It is a fantastic food with a very high nutritional value especially if juiced. 500 grams of fresh wheatgrass is equivalent in nutritional value to 10.5kg of choice garden vegetables. To put it another way, 25-30ml of wheatgrass juice is equivalent in nutritional value to 1kg fresh green leaf vegetables! Wheatgrass juice is one of the best sources of living chlorophyll available. Chlorophyll is the first product of sunlight and therefore contains more light energy than any other element. Chlorophyll is often called "concentrated sun power." It is similar to hemin in haemoglobin; the oxygen and iron-rich factor in our blood. It could be said that drinking lots of chlorophyll-rich juice is like getting a blood transfusion. It flushes the lymph system, nourishes and oxygenates the vascular system, cleanses the intestines, and is healing and soothing to all mucous membranes. Part of the growing process at Sunlight Juice wheatgrass is “finishing” or “sun ripening” the wheatgrass to trigger optimum sweetness and highest chlorophyll benefit. Wheat grass has only about 10-15 calories per teaspoon. It has no fat or cholesterol. It has nearly a gram of protein per teaspoon and includes all eight of the essential amino acids, as well as 13 of the remaining 16. The amino acids it doesn't contain are easily made within the body. Amino Acids are the building blocks of proteins. The body uses these amino adds for, things like building muscle tissue, repairing cells, and clotting the blood. It contains Vitamins A, B1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, and 12; C, E and K. A teaspoon of wheat grass contains around 15mg of Calcium, 8mcg Iodine, 3.5mcg Selenium, 870mcg Iron, 62mcg Zinc, and many other minerals. Amino acids and their function:
Originally Ann Wigmore made wheatgrass juice famous by offering it to cancer patients as a treatment. Wigmore theorized that rotting food in the intestine forms toxins that circulate in the bloodstream (a.k.a. the intestinal toxicity theory) and cause cancer. She stated that the enzymes found in raw wheatgrass were alive and could "detoxify" the body by oral ingestion and implants. Will wheatgrass cure cancer?
