I can't recommend this product highly enough"

Wheatgrass products FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Wheatgrass

Q. What is Wheatgrass?

A. Sprouted wheat grain

Q. What about wheat intolerance?

A. If you have a gluten intolerance you can still take wheatgrass as it is the sprout (vegetable) of the grain (seed). Only the seed contains gluten.

Q. How Do I buy it?

Frozen wheatgrass shots.A. Either fresh living grass in a tray, 28.5cm x 33.5cm (11” x 13”), a bag of cut grass equivalent to 1 well grown tray, keeps well in the fridge or in boxes of 8 'shots' and also bulk bags of 50 or 100 shots.

Q. How do I keep it?

A. As it is a living plant it will require:

  • Watering daily. Pour water into roots, wait a few moments, then pour excess water off.
  • Keep in a well lit position, either in or outside (away from contaminants), morning sun is best

If you have trouble keeping the plant alive, simply cut grass just above the roots and put in either zip-lock bags or plastic airtight containers in the fridge, this should last up to 10 days.

Frozen wheatgrass must be kept frozen until required, it has a shelf life of 9 months.

Simply take a ‘shot’ out at night and defrost in the refrigerator for use in the morning.

DO NOT COOK OR HEAT WHEATGRASS AS YOU IMMEDIATELY LOSE THE NUTRITIONAL BENEFIT OF THE ENZYMES

Q. When should I take it?

A. First thing in the morning on an empty stomach is best.

Q. How much should I take?

A. 25-30mls per day is a good basic amount. If you are treating an illness you may take more, up to about 120mls per day (check with your health professional)

It is a good idea to dilute the juice with a little water to start with and gradually reduce the water content as you get used to taking it regularly.

Q. Can I mix wheatgrass with other juices?

A. Yes, wheatgrass can be mixed with other juices, try pineapple and mint, orange and apple, kiwi fruit. Or find your own favourite mix.

Q. OK, How do I use it?

A. Simply cut a handful of grass with scissors close to the roots. You may rinse or soak the grass in pure water if you like before juicing.

Q. What type of Juicer do I need?

A. Wheatgrass does not juice successfully through a centrifugal juicer (that’s the one with the hard to clean basket) A masticating juicer (literally ‘chewing’) is best. Either manual or electric, these juicers will also juice any fruit or vegetables that you might put through a centrifugal juicer, eliminating the need for two juicers.

Q. Where can I buy a masticating juicer?

A. You can order your juicer through Sunlight juice or your specialty health foods store may stock them.
